# NETGEAR M4250 / M4350

> NETGEAR AV Line fully managed switches over the CLI on Telnet port 23. Identity, uptime, temperature, fans and power supplies; PoE budget; per-port link, speed and PoE draw; PoE power-cycle and port control.

**Works with:** NETGEAR AV Line fully managed switches: the M4250 series and the M4350 series.

| **Type**                         | Vendor adapter                          |
| **Vendor**                       | NETGEAR                                 |
| **Device types**                 | Control                                 |
| **Connection** | Switch CLI over Telnet (TCP 23) |
| **Power on/off from the portal** | No                                      |
| **Protocol in the portal**       | NETGEAR M4250 / M4350 (`netgear_m4250`) |

## Before you start

1. Check Telnet is enabled on the switch. It is by default (`ip telnet server enable`).
2. Note a username and password for a switch user with admin (Privileged EXEC) access. If an enable password is set, add it as the `enable_password` tag.
3. For an M4350, set the `port_prefix` tag to `1/0/` so port numbers in commands match its unit/slot/port names.

## Add the device

1. In the portal, go to **Devices** and select **New device**.
2. Choose the **Collector** that can reach the device, and set **Protocol** to **NETGEAR M4250 / M4350**.
3. Enter the settings below and save. The Collector picks up the new device within five minutes.

| Setting                      | Required | What to enter                                                                                                       | Example       |
| ---------------------------- | -------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------- |
| **Address** | Yes | Switch management IP or hostname. Port 23 is the Telnet default; append :port to override. | `192.168.1.2` |
| **Username** | Yes | Switch user with Privileged EXEC (admin) access. | `admin` |
| **Password**                 | Yes      | That user's password.                                                                                               |               |
| **Poll rate (seconds)** | No | How often to poll. Each poll logs in and runs six show commands; 60s suits most sites. | `60` |
| **Tags → `enable_password`** | No | Enable password, if one is set on the switch. Blank by default. | |
| **Tags → `port_prefix`**     | No       | Prefix added to a bare port number in port commands. Defaults to 0/ (M4250); use 1/0/ for an M4350 or stack unit 1. | `1/0/`        |

<Note>
  **Tags** are set under **Advanced (JSON) → Tags** in the device form, as a JSON object, for example `{"enable_password": "value"}`.
</Note>

## Commands

Each command is a button on the device page, and can be used in Room Readiness routines.

| Command        | Button       | Notes                                                              |
| -------------- | ------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| `reboot`       | Reboot       |                                                                    |
| `poe_reset` | Poe Reset | Asks for the port, such as `5` or `0/5`, and power-cycles its PoE. |
| `poe_on`       | Poe On       | Asks for the port.                                                 |
| `poe_off`      | Poe Off      | Asks for the port.                                                 |
| `port_enable`  | Port Enable  | Asks for the port.                                                 |
| `port_disable` | Port Disable | Asks for the port.                                                 |

<Note>
  **Port readings:** each front-panel port reports its link state, speed, admin state and, on PoE models, its PoE status, class and power draw in watts. Readings are named by port number, such as **Port 5 Link** and **Port 5 Poe Power W**. On a non-PoE model the PoE readings are left out.
</Note>

<Note>
  **Faults:** **Faults** lists failed fans or power supplies, temperature sensors outside their normal range, PoE port faults and a faulty PoE controller.
</Note>

<Note>
  **Commands change the running configuration only.** **PoE Reset** power-cycles the device on a port, such as a touch panel or camera. PoE on/off and port enable/disable are not saved to the switch's startup configuration, so rebooting the switch restores its saved settings. **Reboot** restarts the switch without saving unsaved changes.
